I know he was stationed in New Guiena from approximately 1942-1945. In 1994 my father passed away. As the oldest son I was given the flag from his funeral. I gave the flag to his mother and recently retained possession. I would like to search my fathers military records and acquire his medals and awards, and insignia that he may have earned. However, I don't have his service ID number. Everywhere I have searched within the family leads me to a dead end as far as service record book, and ID number. However, I have the following information: Entered Army 1/26/42 at Pittsburgh, Pa Basic Training at Ft. Meade, MD Additional training at Ft. Bragg, NC and Drew Field, FL (not sure if Drew Field is correct. Spent entire military career in New Guinea Had Malaria and Jungle Rot of feet and spent Time at Lettermans Hospital in San Francisco, and was also at Walter Reed in Washington, DC Family believes he was discharged at Walter Reed and processed at Ft. Dix, NJ. Was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and returned there after the war for several years. Anyone who can help me locate any information on my father can contact me at joe.falce@nashville.com. Comments: I learned of this page in the 43rd News Letter which arrived today. Thanks a lot for all of your wonderful work. I see that your information seems to be up to July '44. I hope you are able to fill in the data to the end of the war. I was a pilot that joined the Group in February '45. Had a crash on take off at John Rodgers air field and we lost our Navigator--Patrick Henry Davis,Jr. We were flown to Biak by the ATC and flew a new black B-24 to join the Group at Clark Field. I spent most of my time in the hospital after getting sick on a visit to Manila. My crew flew as substitues on various crews while I was out of commission. Unfortunately, two of them were lost while flying missions--Jimmy Smythe, radar operator and Jack Quinn, gunner. I did fly five or six missions at the end of the war. Several of the crews that joined the Group when I did had some outstanding missions. I can remember George Phillips, Bill Canevari, John Wilson and another named Scroggs. That's why I would escpecially like to see the record brought up to the end of the war. Thanks again for your fine work. Incidentally, you must be a heckuva programmer to be able to do all this. Bill

Do you have any ideas as to the best way to share this goldmine with the vets and their descendants. Amazing but true, they apparently had a Historical Officer right in the group who kept track of everything; daily missions, promotions, monthly material consumption, crashes and deaths or injuries, etc. Pictures and wonderful drawings are also shown; they had an artist that was quite remarkable. Let me know. Al O'Brien

Comments: What a delight to have Tracy recommend this website. I've only recently tried to find out more about my father's (Lt. Philip O. Van Keuren of Lincoln, NE) war experiences. Thanks to Tracy for recommending this website. Imagine my surprise to see a picture of my father! I'll try to find other crewmembers of SATANS SISTER (403 Sqd) via the locator section. Thanks, Carol
